Tidy City on the Girlsday 2012

This year we used the chance to present TidyCity on the Girlsday again. The Girlsday is a popular event in Germany that allows school girls to have a look at professions that are typically persued by men as it is often the case e.g. in the computer science sector. The event shall bolster girls with interest in these topics to further investigate them and might ultimately help with the career choice of the girls.

Today we offered two workshops for playing TidyCity on our campus. In total 17 girls between 13 and 17 participated and played in groups of two or three girls. Below you see some impressions of the day.

With so many girls playing the same mission at once you have to be quick to solve more riddles than the others.

These girls experienced that GPS signals are not always perfect...

Teamwork always helps to solve riddles quickly!

On such a beautiful campus playing TidyCity is even more fun!

Tidy City at You are GO

We will be giving a workshop for people about Tidy City at the upcoming street game festival "You are GO". The festival lasts from Friday, June 17th, until Sunday, June 19th, and takes place in Berlin. People will have the opportunity to both play the game as well as author new missions for it. Tidy City on the Girlsday 2011

On the 14th April we took part in the Girlsday 2011 and offered two workshops on mobile gaming and authoring for girls between 13 and 17 years old. The Girlsday is an event that allows girls to have a look at professions that are typically persued by men as it is often the case e.g. in engineering, computer science or handcraft. The event shall bolster girls with interest in these topics to further investigate them and might ultimately help with the career choice of the girls.
On the Girlsday twelve girls (six per workshop) had the chance to play TidyCity on the Fraunhofer IZB campus in Sankt Augustin. The game mission was generated by our 15-year old school intern Chantal who recently used our authoring tool series to produce her own interesting and challenging mission of the campus area. During great weather conditions the girls played her mission and had fun. They solved many of Chantal’s riddles and were very busy walking around the campus area to find the wanted places. Afterwards they could check out our authoring tools themselves. They scouted out the campus area and took pictures of their own riddles with the Scout Tool. Then, they uploaded the collected data to the TidyCity Web Authoring Tool and created their own little mission.

These girls just solved a riddle.

PICF starting celebrations, Paris

TOTEM is not the only project funded by the Programme Inter Carnot Fraunhofer (PICF) scheme.
As the official PICF website describes, the goals for this funding programme are to:

Enhance scientific leadership in national and international R&D
Prepare the transfer of technology and knowledge to industry
Create long-term strategic French-German alliances between excellent research organizations

So on October 27th a few members of our project were invited to Bernardin's College in Paris to participate in the starting celebrations as this year's projects were the first ever to be funded.
